ELKINS POLICE RECRUITING FOR OCTOBER 17 TESTING
INCENTIVES UP TO $20,000
The City of Elkins Police Department is accepting applications from both certified and non-certified candidates for its next Police Civil Service testing on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
The testing process will include a physical fitness test, written test, and interviews. Applicants who successfully complete all required portions will be placed on the civil service eligibility list for future appointment as Elkins police officers. There are currently three vacancies.
The City is offering recruitment incentives of up to $20,000 for West Virginia-certified officers. Certified officers may receive a $15,000 incentive upon hiring and an additional $5,000 after two years of satisfactory service.
Uncertified candidates may receive a $3,000 incentive after successfully completing the West Virginia Law Enforcement Academy and obtaining certification, plus an additional $1,500 after two years of satisfactory service.
The Elkins Police Department is seeking candidates committed to public safety, constitutional policing, integrity, fairness, respect and professionalism. Applicants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the written examination, be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet applicable physical, drug-screening and law-enforcement qualification requirements.
Police officers perform a wide range of duties, including patrol, responding to calls for service, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, accident investigations, arrests, report preparation, coordination with other emergency services and community outreach.
