Build a Career with Elkins Water Department – Water Technician Openings (Level I, II or III)
ELKINS, W.Va. — July 31, 2026 — The City of Elkins Water Distribution Department (Water Department) seeks a Water Technician I, II or III to help manage the municipal water system at the plant located at 192 High Street Extension. This job announcement will remain open until the position is filled. The hired applicant will perform a wide range of duties related to the operations, maintenance, and repair of Elkins’ water treatment and citywide distribution system. This is a full-time position that comes with benefits.
Placement at Level I, II or III will depend on the applicant’s qualifications, certifications and relevant experience. Working within the Water Department will open opportunities to skills training, certifications, and long-term career growth for an essential public utility service.

The essential duties of the Water Technician I, II or III include the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, water meters and other water infrastructure in Elkins and the department’s wider service area. In addition to working out in the field, the future applicant can expect to work within Elkins’ water distribution plant, which includes ensuring the seamless operation of pumps, filters, tanks and chemical feed systems.
The minimum requirements for this position are a high school diploma or GED equivalent, mechanical aptitude, a strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
