Recycling Reminder: Glass and Yard Waste Only
As spring cleaning ramps up, the City of Elkins is reminding residents about the rules at our yard waste and glass drop-off site.
The drop-off site only accepts two types of materials: glass and yard waste. Boxes, household trash, and other waste items are strictly prohibited by the companies with which Elkins has contracts.
“People are tossing boxes and other trash in the glass and yard waste roll-off dumpsters,” said Melody Himes, Operations Assistant for the City of Elkins. “This can’t go on. It causes issues with the waste management companies, which in turn could cause them to refuse our yard waste and glass.”
Yard waste guidelines
We’re asking residents dropping off their yard waste to please follow these rules:
- Branches and brush may be no thicker than 2 inches and no longer than 8 feet.
- Do not use string, twine, wire, or plastic ties. They can cause problems with the machines that process this waste.
- Bundles must be manageable in size.
Roll-off dumpsters and sanitation schedule
The yard waste roll-off dumpsters are filling up quickly this season. The Sanitation Department can only dump the container on Mondays and Fridays, and only as time allows. The department hauls all of the yard waste and glass to Clarksburg.
City officials urge residents to cooperate so Elkins can maintain these services for the City’s residents and businesses.
