Elkins Mayor Jerry A. Marco Sworn In as President of West Virginia Municipal League

ELKINS, W.Va. — Aug. 7, 2026 — Elkins Mayor Jerry A. Marco was sworn in as president of the West Virginia Municipal League (WVML) for the 2026-2027 term during an Aug. 6 ceremony in Charleston. Outgoing president and Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin (shown in above photo, left) passed the gavel to Mayor Marco, who was elected by his fellow municipal leaders from across the state.

Among his responsibilities, Mayor Marco will have a leading role in setting policy direction, serve on the league’s legislative policy committee, act as the organization’s public face and host the annual President’s Breakfast to welcome new members.

Mayor Marco previously served as WVML’s vice president and last year received the organization’s “Quiet Strength” award for his dedication to the league. He has also been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Small Cities Council, for which he advocates collaboration and resource development for U.S. cities similar to Elkins in size, demographics and challenges.

“Since my early career in the FBI, I have dedicated my life to public service, and now as mayor of the city I am so proud to call home,” said Mayor Marco. “Local government has the most impact on citizens’ daily lives, and I’m excited to be an advocate for our cities, towns and villages in the Mountain State.”

Mayor Marco was first elected as mayor of Elkins in 2021 for a two-year term and was re-elected to a four-year term in 2023. His projects include establishing the Regional Task Force on Addiction, Homelessness and Mental Health, which brings together local officials, law enforcement and community organizations to address these challenges across North Central West Virginia.

“Having Mayor Marco at the helm of the WVML puts Elkins on the map,” said Leon Kaye, the city’s communications manager. “With such major initiatives as Ascend WV, the Tygart Hotel and the new events center, this statewide leadership role amplifies our community’s momentum.”

The West Virginia Municipal League is a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of cities, towns and villages that has assisted local governments since 1968. The league achieves its mission through legislative advocacy, research, education and other services for municipal elected officials. Its membership includes all 230 municipalities in the Mountain State.
