City Hall News: Week of November 9, 2025
ELKINS, W.Va. — November 9, 2025 — City Hall continues to ask residents to sign up for emergency text alerts. Residents with mobile phones can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Please sign up at https://cityofelkinswv.com/alerts/.
Sanitation Department Updates
During Thanksgiving week, customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Monday will have it collected on Sunday morning, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Wednesday and Thursday will have it collected Wednesday morning, Nov. 26. More information is here: https://cityofelkinswv.gov/alert/city-hall-closed-thanksgiving/.
No garbage or bulk pickup is scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 27, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for Nov. 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:
Remember, residents’ bulk pickup schedule depends on the day of the week your regular garbage is picked up.
For November, bulk pickups are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday garbage: Bulk pickup is scheduled for Nov. 11
- Wednesday garbage: Bulk pickup is scheduled for Nov. 19
- Thursday garbage: Bulk pickup is scheduled for Nov. 28
- Friday garbage: Bulk pickup is scheduled for Nov. 28
*Note: Bulk pickup regularly scheduled for Thursday and Friday pickups in November both will occur on Friday, November 28 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.

Alternative Transportation Option
Country Roads Transit will offer fare free rides on its route and loop services for the Elkins and Buckhannon communities until the federal benefits of West Virginians are restored. More information is on the Randolph County Senior Centers Facebook page.

Website Update
The City of Elkins has upgraded its digital infrastructure with its transition to a .gov domain. Our new online address is now https://cityofelkinswv.gov. Everyone may still email City of Elkins employees and access our website using the .com domain (suffix). The change to a .gov domain provides a more secure environment for the City’s conducting of business with its residents and vendors. City Hall Business
City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27 & 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The next Elkins City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. The agenda should be posted early next week.

- Water Board Meeting: Monday, November 10, 4:00 p.m., 401 Davis Avenue (Wood Tech Center)
- Planning Commission: Thursday, November 13, 4:00 p.m. 401 Davis Avenue (Wood Tech Center)
The following committees meet next week on Monday, November 17:
- Sanitary Board: 10:00 a.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center.
- Municipal Properties: 11:00 a.m., also at the Phil Gainer Community Center.
All City Hall meetings are open to the public and are scheduled at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovation since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.
