City of Elkins Enhances Online Security with New .Gov Domain

The City of Elkins has upgraded its digital infrastructure with its transition to a .gov domain. Our new online address is now https://cityofelkinswv.gov.

This move to an official government top-level domain (TLD) reinforces the City’s commitment to security, trust, and reliable communication with residents. The .gov domain is exclusively for U.S.-based government organizations, providing a verified and more secure online environment for official business with our residents, partners, and vendors.

A Seamless Transition for Our Residents

We understand that residents have bookmarked important pages and have contact information saved. To ensure a smooth transition:

  • All existing .com web addresses (URLs) will continue to work. If you have a bookmark for a page on our old .com domain, it will automatically redirect you to the correct page on our new .gov website.
  • All employee email addresses ending in .com will still receive messages. There is no need to update your contacts immediately.

While the old links will continue to work, we encourage you to update your bookmarks to the new .gov addresses over time for the most direct and secure access.

To make it easy, here are the direct links to some of the most frequently visited pages on our new cityofelkinswv.gov domain:

Why This Change Matters

The shift to a .gov domain is more than just a change in our web address. It offers the City the following benefits:

  • Increased Security: The .gov namespace is managed with strict security policies and requirements, helping to protect against phishing and spoofing attempts.
  • Enhanced Trust: Residents can be confident they are interacting with the official City of Elkins website, not an imposter site.
  • Official Identity: It clearly establishes our digital presence as the legitimate, authoritative source for Elkins’ government information and services.

We are excited about this important step forward in modernizing our services and safeguarding our digital communications. The new website is part of our ongoing effort to improve transparency, accessibility, and security for all Elkins residents.

For any questions about this transition to the .gov TLD, please contact us via the City Clerk’s office.
