City Hall News: Week of August 10, 2025
ELKINS, W.Va. —August 8, 2025 — A reminder that starting next month, September 2025, Elkins residents will see a change in curbside trash collection rules as the City implements its first-ever garbage bag limit. Approved by City Council on Thursday, June 25, Ordinance 345 amends Chapter 50 of the Elkins City Code, setting the following bag limits for weekly curbside pickup:
- Twelve (12) 13-gallon kitchen bags, or
- Six (6) 30-gallon large trash bags, or
- Three (3) 55-gallon contractor bags.
The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for August 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday weekly trash pickup: Tuesday, August 12
- Wednesday weekly trash pickup: Wednesday, August 20
- Thursday weekly trash pickup: Thursday, August 28
- Friday weekly trash pickup: Friday, August 29
*Friday’s bulk pickup will be one week later than the usual monthly schedule*
This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, mattress, or piece of furniture.
To schedule and pay for a Special Trash Pickup, such as a truck bed- or dumpster-sized load at any time, please call 304.636.1414, ext. 1437.

City Committee and Board Meetings:
- The Sanitary Board will meet on Monday, August 11, at 3:00 p.m.
- The Water Board will meet on Monday, August 11, at 4:00 p.m.
- The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet Thursday August 14, 3:30 p.m., at the WV Wood Tech Center (10 Eleventh Street).
The next Elkins City Council meeting will occur on Thursday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m. The August 7 meeting was canceled as there was only one non-urgent item of business.

City Hall remains closed to the public for renovation and repairs until further notice. All departments are operating and available for service as usual, but in-person appointments will require advance arrangements. All City meetings occur at the Phil Gainer Community Center (142 Robert E. Lee Ave. Extension) in Elkins unless otherwise stated.

Utility and in-city fire fee bills are due August 20. First-due fire fee bills will be mailed out August 15 and are due on September 4th.
