City of Elkins Honors Educators During National Teacher Appreciation Week
ELKINS, W.Va. — May 4, 2026 — This week, the City of Elkins joins school districts and communities across the country in celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week.
Teachers do all they can for their students, and this year, there is a nationwide charge to transform appreciation into action—protecting students, strengthening public schools, and ensuring educators are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
Here in Elkins, Mayor Jerry Marco is adding his own personal touch to this national effort. With several close family members in the teaching profession, Mayor Marco knows firsthand the dedication that educators bring to the classroom each and every day.
“National Teacher Appreciation Week means a little more to me, because some of my favorite people wear ‘teacher’ as their title,” Mayor Marco said. “Thank you for shaping minds, building character, and never giving up on a single child.”
As the school year winds down, the City of Elkins is encouraging residents to turn words into action. A simple thank-you email, a handwritten note, or even saying “we see you” can make a world of difference for a hardworking and dedicated teacher.
Residents are invited to send a note of gratitude to their local school, or reach out to county, state, and federal leaders to voice support for public education.
Every bit of appreciation counts. 🍎
