City Hall News: Week of June 8, 2025

ELKINS, W.Va. — June 7, 2025 — The City of Elkins has three committee meetings scheduled for Monday, June 9, at the Phil Gainer Community Center, located at 142 Robert E. Lee Ave.:

Municipal Properties: Starting at 11:00 a.m., this committee will discuss updates including the former Four Seasons property; City Hall renovations; the public butt bins cigarette receptacles; the Diamond Street stormwater system; City Hall landscaping: and the Randolph Avenue pedestrian crosswalk. The committee will also discuss installing street sweeper signs near parks and other locations across the City.

Finance: At 1:00 p.m., this committee will consider to outside contributions for FY 2027; final FY 2025 Budget revisions in Police Administration, Treasurer, Central Garage, Streets, Clerk, Elections, State Grants, Mayor’s Office, City Attorney, City Hall, Other Buildings, Transfer to Other Funds, Public Works, Contingencies, Police, Recycling, Storm Sewer, Visitor’s Bureau, and PGCC; and, evaluate a citizen proposal that the city fund the purchase of an artificial community Christmas tree for $11,294.75.

Water Board: Scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The agenda is TBA as of press time.

The next City Council Meeting is Thursday, June 12, 7:00 p.m., at the Phil Gainer Center. The agenda is TBA as of press time.

City Hall remains closed to the public for renovation and repairs until further notice. All departments are operating and available for service as usual, but in-person appointments will require advance arrangements. All meetings occur at the Phil Gainer Community Center (142 Robert E. Lee Ave. Extension) unless otherwise stated.

Elkins’ next municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10. Early voting concludes Saturday, June 7. For this election, one council member from each of the city’s five wards will be elected to four-year terms. In Wards 1-3, the incumbents are the only candidates on the ballot. Wards 4 and 5 have contested races. There is no race for mayor in the 2025 election, as the current mayor’s term does not expire until 2027. Utility & in-city fire fee bills are due on June 19.

Business license renewals have been mailed out for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, and are due on June 30, 2025.
