Leaf Collection Season, 2025

This year’s leaf collection season started on Monday, October 13 and ended Wednesday, November 26. Pickup begins in the heavier areas of the city first; the Street Department will then proceed to go street by street, ward by ward to collect leaves.

After November 26, you may still leave bagged leaves for pickup; simply call 304-636-1414, ext. 1437.

Street sweeping in Elkins ended on Thursday, October 2.

Some things for residents to remember:

  • Rake leaves into piles in the grassy area between the curb and the sidewalk or bag up leaves for pick up.
  • If residents prefer to bag their leaves, remember that those bags must contain only leaves and no yard waste or trash.
  • Please do not move leaves into the street, as they can cause problems with storm drains, parking, and traffic.
  • City employees will not go into yards to collect leaves.
  • The Street Department will do its best to collect bagged leaves within 48 hours. Residents must place the bagged leaves at the curb and contact the Operations Department at (304) 636-1414, ext. 1437 to report the location of the bagged leaves for pick up.
  • Residents may also drop off yard waste at the Street Department’s garage at 1 Baxter Street, Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m.- to 4:30 p.m. More information about the Baxter Street location is here.
