Mayor Marco Honors Elkins Swim Teams After Girls’ 3-Peat and Boys’ Runner-Up Finish
ELKINS, W.Va. — June 17, 2026 — This morning, Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco congratulated the Elkins High School swim teams for a successful year. In February, the Lady Tigers won their third consecutive state Division II championships, holding off Elkview’s Herbert Hoover High School team to take the crown. The Elkins High boys swim team was second behind Clarksburg’s Robert C. Byrd High School crew.
Among the Lady Tigers’ successes were the relay team of Aleah Irons, Leah Ours, Sophia Rhodes, and Emma Ujvagi, who took first place in the 200 freestyle relay in the Division II championships in Morgantown, with a time of 1:44.30.
“Three consecutive state championships—that’s not just a win, that’s a dynasty,” said Mayor Marco during a ceremony held at the Elkins Fire Department. “As a former coach, I know how tough it is to stay focused and keep winning. This also can’t be done without the strong support system you have, including your parents, coaches, and friends. This team has set a new standard for excellence in Elkins, both in the pool and in the classroom. The entire city stands behind each and every one of you, today and always.”
Mayor Marco added, “Your achievements show that Randolph County’s young athletes can compete with anyone and everyone here in West Virginia.”
Mayor Marco also presented each of the Lady Tiger swimmers with a commemorative plaque celebrating their achievements.
