ELKINS, W.Va. — January 11, 2026 — The City of Elkins is now offering residents and business owners free reflective address numbers. Please don’t let snow, fog, or darkness hide your home or business if first responders need to arrive on the scene.

Getting your free decals is easy as 1-2-3:

• Visit the Finance Dept. at the WV Wood Tech Center (at 10 11th St., Suite 3).
• Provide your Elkins address.
• Receive your free reflective numbers.

Emergency Alerts

Help us help you: The City Clerk’s office continues to ask residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone using a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays.

Sanitation Department Updates

The garbage collection and bulk item pickup services are on a normal schedule for the entire month of January.

Updated Emails and Website Links for City of Elkins

The City of Elkins has upgraded its digital infrastructure with its transition to a .gov domain. Our new online address is now https://cityofelkinswv.gov. Everyone may still email City of Elkins employees and access our website using the .com domain (suffix). The change to a .gov domain provides a more secure environment for the City as it conducts conducting with its residents and vendors. City Hall Business

The following committee meetings are scheduled:

• Municipal Properties: Monday, January 12, 11:00 a.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center. Items on the agenda include planning for the City-owned property on Harrison Ave.; acceptance of a bid to replace the Phil Gainer Community Center roof; update on a local traffic study; and the downtown sound system.
• Finance: Monday, January 12, 1:00 p.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center. This committee’s topics of discussion include budget planning for FY 2027; the treasurer’s report on general fund expenditures; an invoice related to the community Christmas tree; and the closure of an ARPA bank account.
• Water Board: Monday, January 12, 4:00 p.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center. Committee members will discuss the Whitmer Water System; a report from the City’s chief water operator; and the payment of invoices.
• Historic Landmarks: Tuesday, January 13, 4:00 p.m., at Darden House. As of press time the agenda is not yet publicly available.

City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovations since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

Finance Department Updates

Utility and in-city fire fee bills were mailed out December 30 and are due January 20. Utility shutoffs are scheduled for January 6 for unpaid water bills that were due December 20.

The 2025 annual and 4th quarter B&O invoices are due January 31.
