ELKINS, W.Va. — September 12, 2025 — The City of Elkins reminds its residents to sign up for emergency alerts. Residents with mobile phones can receive important alerts including weather warnings and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Mountain State Forest Festival Update

The City of Elkins is currently partnering with the Mountain State Forest Festival’s organizers and additional community groups on ensuring that this year’s event, starting September 27 and ending on October 5, is a success. Sanitation Department Updates

The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for September 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday weekly trash pickup: Wednesday, Sep. 17
• Thursday weekly trash pickup: Thursday, Sep 25
• Friday weekly trash pickup: Friday, Sep. 26

This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.

To schedule and pay for a Special Trash Pickup, such as a truck bed- or dumpster-sized load, please call 304.636.1414, ext. 1437.

City Hall Business

This coming week, the following committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, September 15 at the Phil Gainer Community Center:

• Sanitary Board: This board, which has oversight of Elkins’ public wastewater system, will discuss a proposed classification and compensation plan; review a sewer rate analysis and study; and a personnel action request. This meeting starts at 10:00 a.m.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled on Thursday, September 18, 7:00 p.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center. The agenda should be published online early next week.

Meetings are generally held at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovation since September 2024. Contractors are currently working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.
