EFD Media Alert: Fire at Hamer Pellet Fuel Co., June 4, 2025
Elkins, WV, June 5, 2025: At 3:49 p.m. on June 4, 2025, the Elkins Fire Department (EFD) responded to a fire at the Hamer Pellet Fuel Co. plant in South Elkins. The first crew arrived at the scene at 3:53 p.m.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Belington Volunteer Fire Department, Beverly Volunteer Fire Department, Buckhannon Fire Department, and Coalton Fire Department. The Belington and Buckhannon departments provided engine transfers for EFD while all EFD units were deployed at the scene.
Additional support came from the Elkins Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Randolph County Emergency Squad, and West Virginia State Police.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered heavy smoke. An EMS unit reported an explosion during firefighting operations, but no injuries or entrapments occurred.
Fire crews successfully extinguished the blaze, with the final unit departing at 7:42 p.m.
Preliminary assessments suggest an electrical cause; the Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the official investigation.
