GIS Zoning Map Added to City of Elkins Website

The City of Elkins has recently released a new, interactive Zoning Map on our website. This Zoning Map uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.

GIS tools allow us to gather data, create visualizations, and perform analysis to better understand the workings of our city. As we continue to expand our mapping of the city’s infrastructure, political boundaries, crime, social features, and other ongoing projects and initiatives, and create interactive interfaces for our residents, we hope to add spatial awareness to conversations around our city’s growth.

The Zoning Map will allow citizens of Elkins to view how different areas in the city are zoned, by clicking parcels on the map or by searching for a specific address.

For reference while using the map, the colored areas are:

  • Yellow: Commercial
  • Orange: Central Business District
  • Pink: Educational
  • Light Blue: City Residential
  • Dark Blue: Single Family Residential
  • Green: Recreational
  • Brown: Industrial
