Media Advisory: Regional Task Force to Discuss Challenges with Expanding PRSS (“Peer”) Support Services
The general public is always welcome to attend this task force’s meetings.
This task force has met monthly since 2021 to address some of the most pressing challenges facing Elkins and North Central West Virginia.

WHO: The Regional Task Force on Homelessness, Addiction, and Mental Health.
WHAT: The Task Force will hold its monthly public meeting tomorrow. The key discussion topics is the role and need for more peer recovery support specialists (PRSS, pronounced as “peers”) in the community. The agenda features a peer discussion focusing on:
- The community’s need for additional PRSS.
- The clinical infrastructure required to support them.
- The step-by-step process for identifying and training new PRSS.
- Identifying potential PRSS.
- How many are actually in North Central WV, and whether they are tied to any specific organizations.
WHEN: Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
WHERE: Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E Lee Ave. Extension, Elkins, WV.
WHY: This meeting is a key opportunity for media and the public to learn about local efforts to address the interconnected challenges of the unhoused, substance use disorder, and mental health through peer-based support systems.
NOTE: The agenda includes time for public comment after the call to order and roll call.
