Owen Haddix Joins the Elkins Fire Department

Elkins W. Va., July 17, 2024: The City of Elkins is proud to announce the swearing-in of Owen Haddix as a Probationary Firefighter with the Elkins Fire Department. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Elkins City Hall, marking the beginning of Haddix’s dedicated service to the community.

As a Probationary Firefighter, Haddix will be responsible for suppressing and controlling fires, conducting rescue efforts, providing emergency medical attention, and educating the public on fire prevention. His role involves using specialized knowledge and tools to ensure the safety and well-being of Elkins residents.

The hiring process for probationary firefighters is rigorous and competitive. Candidates must pass an online exam, physical fitness test, and interviews conducted by the Civil Service Commission. Successful applicants are placed on an eligibility list, from which the fire department selects new hires based on a comprehensive evaluation.

In attendance to the ceremony were Elkins Fire Chief Steve Himes, staff from the Elkins Fire Department, Mayor Jerry Marco, grandparents Donna and Kenny Weese, parents Amie and Tim Haddix, siblings Kenton and Braelyn Haddix, Ella Montoney, Doug Weese, Randi Bender, Krosby Bender, Lori Bender, and PJ Bender.
