ELKINS, W.Va. — January 24, 2026  — A faith-based coalition has opened a warming station at 110 3rd Street in downtown Elkins. For more information, please visit their Facebook page by searching for “Randolph County Warming Station.” For more information on how to volunteer or donate supplies, their contact phone number is (304) 621-2947. Their Facebook page has useful, up-to-date information on how you can help and what kind of donations they would like from the community. As of press time there is a need for volunteering overnight. Please help if you can.

The City of Elkins’ Street Department is committed to clearing roads during snowstorms, starting very early in the morning. Frozen or burst pipes are always a huge risk this time of year. Should this happen to your home, and if a plumber isn’t available and you have no other options, you may call the Elkins Water Department:

• Daytime Hours (5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday-Saturday):
  Call the Water Department directly at 681-298-5200.
• After Hours & Weekends:
  For non-emergency assistance, requests are handled through our local 911 center. Please call (304) 636-2000.
  Please note: A surcharge will be applied if the issue is determined to be on the customer’s side of the water meter.

Free Reflective Address Numbers

 The City now offers residents and business owners free reflective address numbers. Please don’t let snow, fog, or darkness hide your home or business if first responders need to arrive on the scene in an emergency.

Getting your free decals is easy as 1-2-3:

• Visit the Finance Dept. at the WV Wood Tech Center (at 10 11th St., Suite 3).
• Provide your Elkins address.
• Receive your free reflective numbers.

A clearly visible address saves critical time, and even lives: Pick yours up today! The Finance Department’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- to 4:00 p.m.

Emergency Alerts

With the massive snowstorm expected, please help our first responders help you: The City Clerk’s office continues to ask residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone using a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays.

Sanitation Department Updates

If your regular garbage pickup is on Monday morning, the Sanitation Department is letting you know that on Monday, January 26, they may pick up your trash far later than usual because of the expected snowstorm and road conditions.

The garbage collection and bulk item pickup services are on a normal schedule for the entire month of January and February.

City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovations since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

Finance Department Updates

Utility shutoffs are scheduled for February 4 for unpaid water bills that were due on January 20.

The 2025 annual and 4th quarter B&O invoices are due January 31.
