Free Reflective Address Numbers

The City is now offering residents and business owners free reflective address numbers. Please don’t let snow, fog, or darkness hide your home or business if first responders need to arrive on the scene in an emergency.

Getting your free decals is easy as 1-2-3:

• Visit the Finance Dept. at the WV Wood Tech Center (at 10 11th St., Suite 3).
• Provide your Elkins address.
• Receive your free reflective numbers.

A clearly visible address saves critical time, and even lives: Pick yours up today! The Finance Department’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- to 4:00 p.m.

Emergency Alerts

Help us help you: The City Clerk’s office continues to ask residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone using a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays.

Sanitation Department Updates

The garbage collection and bulk item pickup services are on a normal schedule for the entire month of January.

City Hall Business

The next scheduled Elkins City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 22. Visit https://cityofelkinswv.com/agenda-center/ for up-to-date information about the coming meeting’s agenda.

The following committee meetings are scheduled:

• Finance: Tuesday, January 20, 1:00 p.m., Phil Gainer Community Center. The committee will discuss departments’ compensation policy.
• Sanitary Board: Wednesday, January 21, 10:00 a.m., Phil Gainer Community Center. Items on the agenda include short- and long-term project planning.
• Regional Task Force on Homelessness, Addiction, and Mental Health: Thursday, January 22, 1:00 p.m., Phil Gainer Community Center. This committee will discuss the status updates of grants and Elkins’ warming center.

All City Hall meetings are open to the public and are held at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovations since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

Finance Department Update

Utility and in-city fire fee bills are due January 20. Utility shutoffs are scheduled for January 6 for unpaid water bills that were due December 20.

The 2025 annual and 4th quarter B&O invoices are due January 31.
