Work for Elkins Wastewater Dept. as a Technician, a Career AI Can’t Replace

ELKINS, W.Va. — Aug. 4, 2026 — The City of Elkins Wastewater Department is searching for a Wastewater Collection Technician I, II or III. This is a full-time position with benefits and will remain open until the position is filled. Final placement will be based on the new hire’s experience, certification and demonstrated skills. The position, which will report to the Wastewater Collection Supervisor, will work out of the City’s Wastewater Collection Department at 31 Jones Drive in Elkins.

The job requirements for this position include a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in wastewater treatment system operations is not required, but preference is given for anyone who have it. Coursework or training in industrial technology, mechanical or civil engineering technology or a related field is preferred, but it is also not required. The Wastewater Department will accept an equivalent combination of experience, training and education. A valid driver’s license is a must: A Class B CDL is required for Level III, while Level II requires either a CDL or a Collection System 1C Operator Certification. Additional certifications may be required for both levels.

While the position will be based at the Collection Department, work could be required within the Wastewater’s Department’s service area. To that end, all candidates must be physically prepared to perform manual labor, work in extreme winter or summer weather conditions, and lift bags weighing as much as 55 to 80 pounds.
