ELKINS, W.Va. — April 11, 2026 — Street sweeping resumes this Monday, April 13. Parking enforcement will start on Monday, April 20. The street sweeping schedule is unchanged from last year and can be viewed online here: https://cityofelkinswv.gov/street-sweeper.

Sign up for Emergency Alerts

Yes, spring is here, yet Elkins City Hall is still asking residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anybody with a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. Subscribers will also receive reminders about changes to the City of Elkins’ services due to holidays.

Free Reflective Address Decals

The City of Elkins offers residents and business owners free reflective address numbers. Please don’t let darkness or severe weather make your home or business difficult to find when first responders must arrive on the scene in an emergency.

Getting free decals for your home or business is easy:

• Visit the Finance Dept. at the WV Wood Tech Center (at 10 11th St., Suite 3).
• Provide your Elkins address.
• Receive your free reflective numbers.

A clearly visible address saves critical time, and even lives: Please pick up yours today!

The Finance Department’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Sanitation Department Updates

City Hall Business

The Planning Commission and Elkins City Council is hosting a public meeting to discuss Elkins’ next Comprehensive Plan. The meeting is this Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend. Learn more at https://cityofelkinswv.gov/comprehensive-plan-2026/.

The following committees and boards have meetings scheduled:

Monday, April 13, at the Phil Gainer Community Center:

• Municipal Properties: 11:00 a.m. Items of business include traffic control improvements and right-of-way access at Ellis Ave.
• Finance: 1:00 p.m. The agenda includes a FY 2027 property and casualty insurance bid; matters related to the TIF district; and FY 2027 sanitation and fire budgets.
• Water Board: 4:00 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Community Center. Topics include reports from the Chief Water Operator.

Also on April 13, the Tree Board will meet at Darden House, 6:30 p.m. Officer elections for this board will occur, as well as discussions related to Arbor Day.

On Tuesday, April 14, the Historic Landmarks Commission will meet at the Darden House at 4:00 p.m. The agenda is TBA.

Elkins City Council will next meet on Tuesday, April 21, 7:00 p.m., at the Phil Gainer Community Center. The full agenda is TBA; this is when Council will “lay the levy.”

City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovations since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.
