City Hall News: Week of March 29, 2026

ELKINS, W.Va. March 29, 2026 This year, Good Friday falls on April 3. Regular garbage pickup scheduled for Friday this coming week will instead be collected a day early on Thursday, April 2.

City Hall offices will be closed on Friday, April 3, and opening again on Monday, April 6.

Sign Up for Emergency Alerts

Elkins City Hall urges residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone with a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays.

Free Reflective Address Decals

The City of Elkins offers residents and business owners free reflective address numbers. Please don’t let severe weather or darkness hide your home or business when first responders have to arrive on the scene in an emergency.

Getting free decals for your home or business is easy:

  • Visit the Finance Dept. at the WV Wood Tech Center (at 10 11th St., Suite 3).
  • Provide your Elkins address.
  • Receive your free reflective numbers.

A clearly visible address saves critical time, and even lives: Please pick up yours today!

The Finance Department’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- to 4:00 p.m.

Sanitation Department Updates

Good Friday is Friday, April 3. Regular garbage pickup scheduled for Friday that week will instead be collected on Thursday, April 2. City Hall offices will be closed.

City Hall Business

Due to April 2 occurring the day before Good Friday, the next scheduled Elkins City Council meeting is Thursday, April 9. Visit https://cityofelkinswv.com/agenda-center/ for up-to-date information about upcoming city council and board meetings’ agendas. The following City Council meeting is rescheduled to Tuesday, April 21; at that meeting, the City will hold a vote to “lay the levy,” i.e., officially enact the FY 2027 budget.

The Personnel Committee is holding a special meeting on Tuesday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m. Items for discussion include the consideration of applicants for the HR generalist vacancy, as well as next steps on the City’s classification and compensation plan.

Save the Date: The Planning Commission and Elkins City Council is hosting a public meeting to discuss Elkins’ next Comprehensive Plan. City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovations since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

Utility shut offs will start on April 7 for unpaid utility bills from the previous month.
