Elkins Police Sergeant B.D. Tice Promoted to Lieutenant

Elkins W. Va., August 16, 2024: The City of Elkins is proud to announce that Sergeant Brandon Tice has been promoted to Lieutenant with the Elkins Police Department. The promotion took place at the recent city council meeting on Thursday, August 15.

“For me, this is probably my favorite rank to promote an officer to,” stated Elkins Police Chief Travis Bennett, “and the reason for that is the significance of the rank of Lieutenant. Achieving Lieutenant is a landmark in a police officer’s career.”

The change of rank was administered by Chief Bennett and Lieutenant Boatwright, who congratulated Tice and presented him with a plaque. In attendance at the ceremony were staff from the Elkins Police Department, Mayor Jerry Marco, city council members, city staff, friends, and family.

Chief Bennett continued, “It’s a shift in what their responsibilities are and what their duties are. It’s such an important shift in responsibility, that we mark that change on the uniform by changing the color of the badge. This is the rank where an officer goes from wearing a silver badge to wearing a gold badge, just to denote the importance of that position.”
