2024 Extra Mile Heroes Awarded
Mayor Jerry Marco has awarded three exemplary recipients in his locality with the “Extra Mile Hero Award.”
Mayors from across the country award the Extra Mile Hero Award to three groups or individuals who have excelled in growing, supporting, or leading their community.
“This is one of the better things I get to do in the community because I get to recognize people who go above and beyond,” stated Marco. “to help their fellow citizens and to help our community and to just make this a special place which it really is.”
The Extra Mile Heroes for 2024 Are:
Dave Whittaker
Dave Whittaker founded Warriors in the Field in 2015, as a way of helping veterans heal through taking them into the outdoors to fish and hunt. He has also brought groceries to needy veterans at Christmas time, built handicap ramps, fencing, and other small construction projects for disabled veterans. Dave is a true example of what it means to be an Extra Mile Hero.
Bill Pingley and Marshall Howser
Bill Pingley and Marshall Howser are chefs for Lunch with Neighbors at First United Methodist Church. They work 8 hours a day, 3 days a week without pay to prepare restaurant quality food for those in need of a hot meal. They are both kind, quick-witted, and dependable, which makes them excellent candidates for the Extra Mile Hero Award.
