Vacant properties in Elkins must be registered with the Code Enforcement Officer to protect public safety and support code enforcement. This page explains the requirements, fees, and how to register.

Fees

Owners of vacant properties are charged annual fees, as shown to the right. Please note that the fee is based on number of years vacant, regardless of changes in ownership. However, number of years vacant is counted from the date of registration.

In addition, the City, in an effort to secure and preserve the public’s safety as it relates to vacant or open buildings, adopted Ordinance 227.
