Mayor Jerry Marco Appointed to National League of Cities’ 2026 Small Cities Council
Elkins, WV, January 30, 2026: City of Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2026 Small Cities Council. During this one-year term, Mayor Marco will have a role in developing and guiding programs among local elected officials from similar communities across the U.S.
“Being appointed to the National League of Cities Small Cities Council is a tremendous honor and a critical opportunity for Elkins,” said Mayor Marco. “It allows our voice to be heard on a national stage, ensuring that the perspectives and needs of small, unique communities like ours have a say in national policy. This role will help us share Elkins’ successes, learn from peers, and secure resources that support our continued growth and resilience.”
As a member of NLC’s Small Cities Council, Mayor Marco will join an experienced and innovative group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking, and the development of resources and programs for communities like Elkins. These efforts will benefit communities that share demographics, size, and challenges—solutions that can be replicated across the country.
Mayor Marco was first elected as Elkins’ mayor in 2021 for a two-year term; he was re-elected to a four-year term in 2023. Among his projects is his work in establishing the Regional Task Force on Addiction, Homelessness, and Mental Health, which brings together local officials, law enforcement, and community organizations to address such challenges in North Central West Virginia.
“National League of Cities’ member councils design and create NLC’s policies that bring together innovative ideas and solutions to the biggest challenges facing local leaders across the country,” National League of Cities President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember, Louisville, Kentucky said in announcing Mayor Marco’s appointment. “I am excited to have Mayor Marco serve on NLC’s Small Cities Council this year as we work together to ensure our cities, towns, and villages have the resources they need to create thriving communities.”
