City Hall News: Week of November 23, 2025

ELKINS, W.Va. November 22, 2025 The City of Elkins is urging residents and business owners to sign up for emergency text alerts. Anyone with a mobile phone can receive important alerts including weather warnings, street closures, and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Please sign up at https://cityofelkinswv.com/alerts/.

Sanitation Department Updates

During Thanksgiving week, customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Monday will have it collected on Sunday morning, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Wednesday and Thursday will both have their garbage collected Wednesday morning, Nov. 26. More information is here: https://cityofelkinswv.gov/alert/city-hall-closed-thanksgiving/.

No garbage or bulk pickup is scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 27, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Remember, residents’ monthly bulk pickup schedule depends on the day of the week your regular garbage is picked up.

The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for Nov. 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:

For November, bulk pickups are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday garbage: Bulk pickup is scheduled for Nov. 28
  • Friday garbage: Bulk pickup is also scheduled for Nov. 28

*Note: Bulk pickup regularly scheduled for Thursday and Friday pickups in November both will occur on Friday, November 28 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.

Alternative Transportation Options

The City of Elkins reminds residents that Country Roads Transit runs two routes throughout Elkins Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please read https://cityofelkinswv.com/CRT/ for more information; you may also call 304-636-6472 or 1-877-636-6472.

Website Update

The City of Elkins has upgraded its digital infrastructure with its transition to a .gov domain. Our new online address is now https://cityofelkinswv.gov. Everyone may still  email City of Elkins employees and access our website using the .com domain (suffix). The change to a .gov domain provides a more secure environment for the City’s conducting of business with its residents and vendors. City Hall Business

City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There are no Elkins City Council or committee meetings scheduled for the coming week.

The next Elkins City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. The agenda should be posted early next week.

All City Hall meetings are open to the public and are scheduled at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

City Hall Renovations

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovation since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

First due fire fees were mailed out on November 14 and are due December 4.

  • Blue Christmas Celebration: Saturday, November 29, 5:30 p.m. in front of Elkins City Hall.
  • “Jingle All the Way” Christmas Parade, Friday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. downtown, followed by the official Christmas Tree lighting at Elkins Town Square.
