Under West Virginia state law (§8A-3), municipalities are required to adopt a new comprehensive plan every 10 years. Such a plan outlines a city’s goals and priorities for the following decade. Elkins launched its first comprehensive plan in 2015.
Elkins next Comprehensive Plan, currently in draft form, identifies six key priorities:
- Economic development
- Housing
- Infrastructure
- Land use
- Public safety
- Technology
Two drafts are available for download and review: A slide deck summarizing the City’s vision for the next Comprehensive Plan, and the Planning Commission’s current draft of the plan.
Residents and businesses owners in Elkins are welcome to attend the public session on April 16.
