National Police Week May 10-16, 2026 and Peace Officers Memorial Day May 15, 2026 Proclamation
The City of Elkins will join communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week from May 10–16, 2026, and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, 2026, through a proclamation issued by Mayor Marco honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers.
National Police Week serves as a time to recognize the dedication, courage, and professionalism of the men and women who protect and serve their communities each day. Peace Officers Memorial Day, established by Congress and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, honors officers who have lost their lives or been injured in the line of duty while safeguarding the public.
The City of Elkins encourages residents to take time during National Police Week to remember fallen officers, express gratitude to active law enforcement personnel, and support the families who stand beside them in service. Citizens are also encouraged to participate in memorial ceremonies and observe Peace Officers Memorial Day as a symbol of remembrance and respect.
