Calling on Elkins and Randolph County Parents to Take Youth Substance Use Prevention Survey

The City of Elkins and its Regional Task Force on Addiction, Homelessness, and Mental Health are partnering with WV Prevention Solutions to boost local participation in a critical survey on youth engagement and substance use prevention across North Central West Virginia.

WV Prevention Solutions is asking parents to complete this survey by Monday, August 25, at 8:00 p.m.

The anonymous survey, which takes less than five minutes to complete, is aimed at parents and guardians of middle and high school students. The data collected will directly help WV Prevention Solutions identify needs and direct vital resources to support youth and prevent at-risk behaviors in its 13-county service area, which includes Randolph County. The need for proactive prevention measures is significant. West Virginia continues to face severe challenges with substance abuse, particularly among its youth. According to the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, West Virginia has one of the highest rates of substance use disorder in the nation for adolescents aged 12-17. Furthermore, the CDC WONDER database reports that the Mountain State ranks high among the 50 U.S. states in drug overdose death rates, underscoring the critical need for early intervention.
