City Hall News: Week of October 11, 2026

Elkins, W. Va., October 10, 2026: Council and several of its committees have meetings scheduled this week. Other items of interest include an upcoming community meeting on local improvement projects, employment opportunities with the city, and approaching utility and tax payment deadlines.

Elkins Common Council meets Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Community Center. Agenda items include changes to Planning Commission eligibility requirements and several personnel-related matters, including the Operations Manager vacancy and Municipal Court Clerk wages. Council will also consider waiving competitive bidding and authorizing a contract for urgent work on wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure on Capitol Street.

The Municipal Properties Committee meets Monday at 11 a.m. Agenda items include the disposition of property in Third Ward, wayfinding signs, the downtown sound system, 635 Capitol Street, security of municipal buildings, and an update on City Hall renovations.

The Finance Committee meets Monday at 1 p.m. to consider the Operations Manager salary range, Municipal Court Clerk wages, financing options for a new Building Inspector vehicle, and the community Christmas tree.

The Mon Forest Towns Partnership will hold an Elkins Community Action Meeting on Wednesday, October 14, from 5–7 p.m. at Ascend Basecamp at the Railyard, 50 Roundhouse Way. The meeting will include updates on Elkins Area Shared Trails (EAST), Downtown Streetscape, and Riverside Development, as well as opportunities to get involved in local projects. The meeting is open to everyone.

Utility and in-city Fire & Rescue Fee bills are due October 20. Third-quarter 2026 Business & Occupation tax returns are due October 31.

The city is accepting applications for Chief of Police, a position paying $60,000–$74,000. Other openings include Streets Worker II and Municipal Court Clerk. Current openings and application information are available here: https://cityofelkinswv.gov/employment-opportunities/

The Treasurer’s Department and Municipal Court have returned to City Hall, 401 Davis Avenue. The City Clerk’s Office opens Monday. Other offices will return as renovations are completed.
