City Council and Mayor Honor Water Distribution Department for Winter Response

Last week, City Council and Mayor Jerry Marco together honored Water Distribution Department employees for their hard work during a particularly brutal winter.

Throughout the season, the department responded to numerous emergency calls. The City issued at least 20 WENS alerts related to burst pipes and water main breaks across Elkins neighborhoods. In addition, the department fielded many calls about burst pipes on residents’ personal property. The extended period of extreme cold created significant challenges for Elkins’ water distribution system.

Shown in the photo above, and on our Facebook page, are:

First row, left to right: DJ Shoulders, Water Technician Crew Leader; Ben Curtis, Water Technician 1; Eric Hiner, Water Department Supervisor, and Tristan Winans, Water Technician 3.

Second row, left to right: Zack Bonnell, Water Technician 1; RD Walther, Water Technician 3; Michael Kane, Water Technician 1; and DJ Singleton, Water Technician 1.

Led by Elkins’ Public Water System Chief Operator & Manager, Wes Lambert, this department worked long hours in freezing temperatures, dealing with burst pipes and other challenges—all without complaint.

Elkins is fortunate to have this group of employees. The work is not easy, yet they keep showing up.

The City of Elkins again thanks the entire team for its ongoing dedication.
