Elkins: Will You Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters?

Starting Sunday, April 26, the City of Elkins will join towns and cities across the U.S. in participating in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.

This annual initiative, which the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation launched in 2017 to mark its 25th anniversary, is part of its mission to honor our country’s fallen fire heroes; support their families; and work to prevent firefighter deaths and injuries.

From April 26 until May 3 (Sunday to Sunday), fire departments, community buildings, and residents’ homes across the U.S. will glow in red, culminating in National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 2 and 3 this year.

Residents and business owners who wish to participate can visit this page, sign up, share how they’ll take part, and decide whether to light up for one evening or the whole week. The Foundation also welcomes citizens to visit this link and share publicly why they decided to be part of Light the Night.

Mayor Jerry Marco will issue a proclamation on the morning of Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m., during a ceremony with Fire Chief Steve Himes at the Elkins Fire Department on Fourth Street, kicking off the City’s participation. Additional details will be shared on the city’s Facebook page.

To learn more, visit the Foundation’s website. The City of Elkins also encourages residents to download the flier below and pass it on.
