Mayor Awards Extra Mile Heroes
Today, Mayor Jerry Marco recognized three community members as Extra Mile Heroes, an award created by the Extra Mile America organization. These awards highlight everyday actions that contribute positively to the community and reflect a “go the extra mile” approach to service.
The recognitions acknowledge individuals whose work involves practical, often behind-the-scenes efforts that support community well-being. In the group photo from left to right are Markie Jeffries, Christopher Boatwright, and Bob Cowgill, pictured with the Mayor.
Markie Jeffries is a PEER Recovery Support Specialist who works in coordination with the Elkins Police Department to help individuals experiencing substance-use disorders connect with available treatment and recovery resources.
Christopher Boatwright is a Lieutenant with the Elkins Police Department. His role includes daily responsibilities related to public safety and community engagement within the City of Elkins.
Bob Cowgill has been involved with Operation Christmas Child since 1997 and has served for 21 years as an Area Network Coordinator covering Randolph, Pocahontas, Webster, Upshur, Tucker, and Barbour counties. Operation Christmas Child coordinates the distribution of gift boxes to children in various countries.
The Extra Mile Hero recognitions are intended to provide a framework for acknowledging community members whose actions contribute to local and broader efforts through consistent service.
