Your typical day might include:
- Hands-on problem-solving, repairing water mains and service lines to keep our system strong.
- Ensuring water quality by collecting samples and monitoring treatment processes at the City’s water treatment plant (shown above).
- Operating specialized equipment like backhoes and pumps to maintain consistent water pressure and flow for our residents.
- Connecting with the community through meter reading and providing helpful customer service.

We’re Looking for Someone Like You
Do you have a strong work ethic and a desire to learn? Are you someone who takes pride in a job well done and enjoys working both independently and as part of a dedicated team? Are you good and fixing things, problem solving, and being outdoors while working on some challenging repairs? If you have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license, you have the foundation we’re looking for. Previous experience is valued and will determine your starting level, but the willingness to work hard and learn is what the City’s Water Distribution Department value most.
This is a physical, outdoor job that will keep you active and engaged in all types of West Virginia weather. You’ll work proudly, knowing that you will be a vital part of a crew that keeps Elkins running smoothly.
