Your Voice, Our Future: Comprehensive Plan Public Session, April 16

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., Elkins City Council and the City’s Planning Commission will discuss Elkins’ next Comprehensive Plan. The public is welcome to attend this meeting, which will be held at the Phil Gainer Community Center.

Under West Virginia state law (§8A-3), municipalities are required to adopt a new comprehensive plan every 10 years. Such a plan outlines a city’s goals and priorities for the following 10 years. Elkins launched its first comprehensive plan in 2015.

Elkins next Comprehensive Plan, currently in draft form, identifies six key priorities:

  • Economic development
  • Housing
  • Infrastructure
  • Land use
  • Public safety
  • Technology

Two drafts are available for download and review: A slide deck summarizing the City’s vision for the next Comprehensive Plan, and the Planning Commission’s current draft of the plan.

Residents and businesses owners in Elkins are welcome to attend the public session on April 16.
