Elkins, WV, October 17, 2025: The City of Elkins asks residents to sign up for emergency alerts. Residents with mobile phones can receive important alerts including weather warnings and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Sanitation Department Updates
During Thanksgiving week, customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Monday will have it collected on Sunday morning, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Customers who have their regularly scheduled garbage pickup on Wednesday and Thursday will have it collected Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.
The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for October 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:
For October:
- Thursday: Thursday, October 23
- Friday: Friday, October 24
For November:
- Monday: Monday, November 3
- Tuesday: November 11
- Wednesday: November 19
- Thursday: November 28
- Friday weekly trash: November 28
*Note: Bulk pickup regularly scheduled for Thursday and Friday pickups in November both will occur on Friday, November 28 because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.

Operations Department Updates
Street sweeping ended on Thursday, October 2. Leaf collection started on Monday, October 13. Residents are not required to move their vehicles once a week until spring 2026. Please do your part to ensure leaves do not damage Elkins’ sewer system. More information is here: https://cityofelkinswv.com/leaf-collection.

City Hall Business
The next Elkins City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. The agenda will be posted early next week.
The following committees will meet this week:
- Sanitary Board: This board, which oversees the administration of Elkins’ wastewater system, meets Monday, Oct. 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the Phil Gainer Center.
- The Regional Task Force on Homelessness, Addiction, and Mental Health meets Thursday, October 23, at 1:00 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Center.
All City Hall meetings are open to the public and are held at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovation since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.
